The all-new 2022 Subaru WRX is here, and regardless of how you feel about its styling, there’s no denying that the car is worth talking about. It’s got a new engine for 2022, and while power output is the same as before, the larger four-cylinder is more responsive and provides solid performance.

Four trims are available for 2022: Base, Premium, Limited, and GT. The 2022 WRX Base starts at $30,100 including a $995 destination charge, and at the top end of the lineup, the WRX GT costs $42,890. Subaru offers just one option for the car: A $1,875 Harman Kardon speaker system and a moonroof for the midrange Premium trim.

The base WRX gets a decent list of standard features that include a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, 17-inch wheels, a six-speed manual transmission, and more. Moving up through trim levels, the WRX adds features that include a larger 11.6-inch touchscreen with navigation, blind spot monitoring, adaptive dampers, and LED headlights. The top WRX GT gets a new drive mode selection system that offers up to 430 different combinations of settings, and new Recaro sport seats with synthetic suede upholstery.

All 2022 WRX models come with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 271 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Subaru says it fitted the turbo with an electronically controlled wastegate and new air bypass valves that improve responsiveness and acceleration. Every car also gets Subaru’s all-wheel drive system with active torque vectoring, which shifts power between the wheels that need traction most. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, but buyers can opt to “upgrade” to an automatic.
