The popularity and sales success of the Sorento helped Kia transform itself from a bargain basement brand into a front-runner in many current auto segments. The SUV comes in an efficient hybrid configuration, and Kia just announced specs and pricing for the 2023 model.
Kia offers the 2023 Sorento Hybrid in three trims: EX, EX AWD, and SX-P. Pricing starts at $37,885 for the EX, $39,685 for the EX AWD, and $43,685 for the top SX-P trim. All prices include a $1,295 destination charge. The new range-topping SX-P trim gets niceties that include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 17-inch wheels, a Bose premium audio system, and more.
All Sorento Hybrids come with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and 44-kW electric motor that combine for 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The system is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is a high point, at least for the FWD Hybrid, which returns an EPA-estimated 39/35/37 mpg city/highway/combined. All-wheel drive pushes those numbers down significantly to 36/33/34 mpg – still good for a family SUV but short of its front-drive counterpart.
The 2023 Sorento is too new to have crash test data and safety scores, but the similar 2022 SUV earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). If the standard features list for the 2023 model is any indication, the scores will be the same or better. Driver aids include:
- Blind spot collision avoidance assist and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance
- Driver attention warnings
- Forward collision avoidance with junction turning assist
- Highway driving assist
- Lane following assist
- Lane-keeping assist
- Navigation-based adaptive cruise control with curve management
- Safe exit assist
- Rear occupant alerts
The SX-P trim adds a blind view monitor system and a surround-view camera.
