The recently announced 2023 Nissan Versa is one of the most affordable new cars you can buy, but Chevy just announced major updates for its cheapest SUV. The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is all-new and takes the tiny, much-maligned crossover to new levels of tech, safety, and style.
Many expected Chevy to discontinue the Trax after 2022, but the automaker skipped the model year and released an all-new crossover at a lower price instead. Five trims are available, including the $21,495 LS, $23,195 1RS, $23,395 LT, $24,995 2RS, and $24,995 Activ. Power comes from a turbocharged 1.2-liter inline-three-cylinder engine that makes 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive.
The most significant changes come with the Trax’s appearance upgrade, which is dramatic. It’s longer, lower, and wider than before, with a full four-inch drop in overall height from the previous generation. Chevy borrowed elements of the Blazer SUV’s styling for the smaller Trax, including the slim headlights and LED daytime running lights. Interior dimensions benefit significantly from the 11-inch increase in overall length and 2-inch bump in width. Chevy promises three inches more rear legroom and a 12 percent increase in cargo capacity. The LS and LT trims offer black seats with grey accents, the 2RS gets red accents and a flat-bottom steering wheel, and the Activ trim comes with synthetic upholstery and yellow accents.
Tech got a notable upgrade for 2024. The LS and 1RS trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, and the top LT, 2RS, and Activ trims get an 11-inch touchscreen with an 8-inch digital gauge cluster. Chevy offers one of the most intuitive and least distracting infotainment systems around, making interacting with the vehicle easier when driving. Expect standard features to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD Radio, and USB inputs.
All Trax variants get Chevy Safety Assist, which includes:
- Automatic emergency braking
- Automatic high beams
- Following distance indicators
- Forward collision warnings
- Front pedestrian braking
- Lane departure warnings
- Lane keep assist
All 2024 Chevrolet Trax models also get a rearview camera, and the automaker offers adaptive cruise control, lane change alerts with blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a rear parking assist system.
