Hyundai is adding sportier versions of its sedans to the company lineup in the coming years. Late last year, we got our first peek at the Sonata N Line (in full camouflage, natch) and now it’s time to see the 2021 Hyundai Elantra N Line.
Hyundai has divulged that the Elantra N Line includes N brand specific design elements, chassis upgrades, and a turbocharged engine.
The Elantra was redesigned for the 2021 model year. Hyundai’s PR team is using the words “nimble” and “respond quickly” to describe the Elantra’s driving dynamics and powertrain. Those aren’t two words that would have been associated with the Elantra in the past so it’s a clear push in a more engaging direction.
These N Line upgrades are pushing that envelope even further.
The Elantra comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with Hyundai’s version of a continuously variable transmission. The Elantra N Line could be powered by the 1.6-liter turbo-four that is in the Sonata and paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. There, it delivers 180 horsepower and 195 pound-foot of torque.
Check out the preview video that Hyundai released:
Is that a growl coming from the exhaust? Paddle shifters? Paddle shifters would seem to support the eight-speed automatic transmission theory. The growl is… a nice surprise.
We’ll know for sure later this year when Hyundai debuts the model.
