Pirelli has cancelled their 2021 calendar

The 2021 Pirelli Calendar has been cancelled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Italy, the home of Pirelli, is one of the hardest hit countries. Italy has experienced over 6,000 deaths that can be attributed to COVID-19-related symptoms.

Pirelli’s cancellation includes the production and launch of the calendar, slated to be the 48th edition. This isn’t an unprecedented move. Pirelli has cancelled the calendar in the past, as a result of a variety of economic conditions.

“The production of the Pirelli Calendar has been stopped before, in 1967 and then from 1975 to 1983. The unprecedented Covid-19 emergency has forced us to do so again today. We will return to the project when the time is right, together with the people who today were working on it with us”, said the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of Pirelli, Marco Tronchetti Provera.

Traditionally, the calendar does not go on sale, rather it is gifted to friends of Pirelli.

Instead of investing in the project, “The Cal” project will donate 100,000 euro to the fight against and research into coronavirus.
