The 2021 Ford Expedition has a new base model

Want a family bus that’s both stylish and capable but does’t break the bank? If you’re not planning to use the Expedition’s traditionally-available third row, the new STX Package is a fresh option.

The Expedition XL STX is now the cheapest Expedition in the company’s lineup. Some of the price cut can be attributed to the fact that the full-size SUV now seats only five. What that gives buyers is a lot more cargo space, 104.6 cubic feet to be exact.

The STX Package also gives them an ight-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar and manual recline. The second-row 40/20/40 split bench with CenterSlide folds flat and there’s a cargo management system, cargo protector, and cargo net as standard.

The exterior of the Expedition XL STX features a gloss-black five-bar grille and 18-inch Magnetic Metallic-painted cast-aluminum wheels.

Even though it’s the new base model, the SUV features a good amount of technology. It comes standard with an 8-inch infotainment touch screen, SYNC 3 operating system, AppLink, 911 Assist, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and tri-zone automatic climate control. There’s a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot that works with FordPass Connect, four 12-volt outlets, and four USB ports (two up front and two in the rear).

The Expedition continues to be powered by a its 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine that achieves 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and has automatic start/stop functionality. A non-limited-slip 3.15 rear axle, a 23.2-gallon fuel tank, and a Class IV trailer hitch receiver are also standard. Four-wheel drive is available.

Buyers can choose to upgrade their Expedition with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. The features in the package include Pro Trailer Backup Assist, a 3.73 rear axle, trailer brake, and heavy-duty radiator. When equipped, the Expedition offers a best-in-class towing capacity of 9,300 pounds for two-wheel drive models and 9,200 pounds for four-wheel drive Expeditions.

The 2021 Expedition XL STX package starts at $49,995 MSRP and is available to order today.
