The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport has gotten a number of upgrades for the new model year, but it’s not likely that the new Diesel engine options will make their way to the U.S. However, the other updates and a Discovery Sport Black special edition likely will.

The addition of the advanced new Pivi Pro infotainment system with immediate start-up and self-learning capabilities mean the new Discovery Sport is now even more capable and versatile, and ready for family adventures,” said Finbar McFall, Global Product Marketing Director, Land Rover.

Next-generation mild-hybrid four-cylinder diesel engines join the lineup alongside the P300e plug-in hybrid version of the Discovery Sport, which arrived in early 2020. The diesel power plants are available in two different strengths, are more fuel-efficient, and have smoother stop-start operations. These two engines are paired with all-wheel drive.

Currently, Land Rover does not sell the Discovery Sport with a diesel engine in the U.S., nor the PHEV model.

Land Rover will be selling a new Discovery Sport Black Edition with a host of exterior and interior enhancements, most of which can be guessed given the special edition SUV’s name.

The Discovery Sport is also getting Land Rover’s Pivi infotainment system. It has its own battery so there is no delay to start when the car is switched on. Spotify is integrated into the infotainment menu for the first time and Bluetooth now has the ability to connect to two phones at once.

Land Rover’s second-generation Activity Key is also available. The wearable allows customers to lock/unlock any door or start the vehicle from afar.

Drivers can check the quality of the air around them from the infotainment screen. The new Cabin Air Filtration system filters out fine particulates, allergens, pollen and even strong smells. Occupants can select ‘Purify’ mode to activate the system, which filters and continually monitors the air inside the cabin relative to the air outside.

Land Rover has introduced new Rear Collision Monitor technology and a 3D surround view camera to the model for 2021.

Discovery Sport retains its 5+2 seating design with a 40/20/40 split-folding second-row.

Pricing is expected to remain about the same.
