GMC is taking the opportunity at this year’s Super Bowl to tease an upcoming new product. That product, with a staggering 1,000 horsepower, will be the brand’s first 100-percent electric vehicle. It’ll be a pickup. It’ll also be branded as a Hummer.
As we previously reported, the GMC Hummer EV truck is coming. Teaser commercials (see below) during the Super Bowl highlight the quietness and performance. The truck will have an anticipated 1,000 horsepower and a staggering 11,500 lb-ft of torque. That’ll be good for a 0-60 in 3 seconds. For a pickup truck.
Obvious comparisons will be made to Tesla’s upcoming Cybertruck. Its performance version should deliver similar metrics, assuming that the truck’s final form is close to what they are currently taking reservations for. We can also assume that the GMC Hummer will have things like mirrors, and bumpers and other requirements for vehicles to actually go on sale in the United States.
“GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC Hummer EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.”
The Hummer will be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant and will be revealed in its entirety at an event on May 20th, 2020.
Earlier this year, AutomotiiveMap speculated that Hummer was making a resurgence. Click here to take a trip down memory lane.
