It’s sleek, it’s sexy, it’s a wee bit stealthy, and now it’s owned by a Dallas area businessman. Eddie Lee took delivery of the custom crafted supercar from Koenigsegg Dallas, part of the Park Place Premier Collection, paying $3 million for the vehicle.
This isn’t Lee’s first Koenigsegg. He already owns a 2009 CCXR and has the company’s latest model, the Jesko, the forebear to the Jesko Absolut that debuted a few weeks ago, on order. Lee’s Jesko is scheduled to be delivered in mid-2021.
The Regera is a hybrid that combines the power of a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine with three electric motors. It achieves 1500 horsepower. The car doesn’t have a traditional gearbox, instead relying on hydraulic coupling. Because of this, at speeds under 30 mph, the Regera leans on its electric motors for power. Above 30 mph, the car car utilizes its V8, taking off in a mad dash when the accelerator is push to the ground.
It can get from zero to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. From a standstill to 249 mph takes less than 20 seconds. Those numbers make the car the fastest accelerating car in the world. Maximum speed is electronically restricted to 255 mph.
The two-seater is street legal.
It wears a Sweet Mandarin Pearl paint job and features exposed carbon fiber.
Regera started life in the automaker’s Ängelholm, Sweden factory. Lee’s Regera is number 24 of 80 but wears chassis number 168, a number considered lucky in Chinese culture because of how the numbers are pronounced in sequence, which sounds close to the Cantonese phrase “one path to prosperity”.
“When I first got involved with Koenigsegg, I found out they number their chassis sequentially,” said Lee. “The very first chassis was 01, the next 02, etc. My 2009 Koenigsegg CCXR is chassis number 62. I asked Koenigsegg what number my Regera chassis would be. When they told me it would be number 168, I shared the story of this set of lucky numbers. They made a very specialized logo for my car, which you’ll see on the exterior of my car. It really was meant to be.”
Koenigsegg offered just 80 Regera for sale when the car debuted in 2016. All have been sold.
