Land Rover is celebrating 50 years of Range Rover history this year. To celebrate, they’re using the #RangeRoverMemories hashtag and encouraging owners to share their own memories of life with their Rover. They’ve also released the new Range Rover Fifty, a limited edition model that features the heritage paint job of the buyer’s choosing and special model details.
A recent Twitter post by the company showed off three photos from the set of the movie “Snatch” featuring Guy Ritchie, Jason Statham, and a Land Rover. But, that’s not just any Land Rover. It’s Sting’s. Yes, the Sting.
According to BestMovieCars.com, the Range Rover in “Snatch” is a 1982 Land Rover Range Rover. It’s a four-door version – something that wasn’t available until 1981 when the company first introduced the model in the variant. The four-door received a face lift in 1986.
The ’82 had a 100-inch wheelbase and a suspension that was lowered by 20 mm in 1980 to aid in preventing body roll. It was powered by a detuned 135-horsepower V8 engine.
In the Guy Ritchie-directed movie, Jason Statham plays Turkish, a boxing promoter and slot machine shop operator. He stars alongside Benicio del Toro, Dennis Farina, Jason Flemyng, Vinnie Jones, Brad Pitt, ad Race Sherbedgia who play a wide range of characters from a memorable Irish Traveller (Pitt) to an American gangster slash jeweler (Farina).
The Range Rover plays a starring role in the “Snatch” scene where the audience is first introduced to Pitt’s character. You can see the scene below, but note the propensity of the characters for using the “F-word” (over 160 times in the entirety of the film) before you press play.

While it’s not immediately clear how Ritchie got Sting to lend him his Range Rover for the movie it is known that the two are close friends. In 1998 it was Sting and Mrs. Sting (Trudy Styler) who introduced Ritchie to his future wife – Madonna.
Additionally, Styler is a big fan of Ritchie’s. She leant her star power and influence to Ritchie helping To get “Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels“ made.
