Whether you “gig ’em” or “hook ’em horns”, there’s a new license plate for you as part of the My Plates Great Plate Auction. The auction allows Texas football fans to exhibit their school pride using unique phrases that double as legal license plates with custom plates that span a variety of subjects from Star Wars to famous Porsche model numbers and favorite colors.

The auction sells each Texas state plate with a five-year term and each plate is legally transferrable. That means that the buyer can pass it on to a friend or family member. Christmas is coming.

This also means that the plates can be sold. Any future recipient gets the ongoing transfer rights.

All of the plate messages offered in this auction have an opening bid of only $500, with only a few with a reserve beyond that price. Hence, on most plate messages, an opening bid could be the winning bid for that lot if no other bids are received.

The prices are expected to go way up from there. In 2013 the plate message 12THMAN sold for a Texas record of $115,000. HOUSTON sold for $25,000 in January 2013 and ALAMO sold for $10,250 in March 2016.

All plates are authorized for use by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

The My Plates Great Plate Auction will be online-only through October 21 and may be accessed via www.myplates.com/auction.
