The Triton Model H is an all-electric behemoth

Triton has debuted the Model H, an all-electric SUV.

It has all the classic hallmarks of elegant people hauler: long swaths of darkened out windows, a commanding grille, chrome piping the length of the body, and unique features that push the envelope. The Triton Model H is the all-electric SUV that will have your eyes wide open.

The Triton H has a 130-inch wheelbase, which is the same size as a 2020 Chevrolet Suburban.
For 2021, the Suburban upped its wheelbase to 134.1 as part of a generational change. It also has the same exterior dimensions as the 2020 Suburban: 224″ (L) x 81″ (W) x 74″ (H).

The eight-seater SUV has a 200-cubic foot cargo capacity, that’s 55.3 cubic feet more than the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban’s 144.7. That’s enough space for 11 Yeti 65 coolers and a few lawn chairs or a Renault Twizy and an average sized casket.

The vehicle will be sold in two grades: Standard and Performance. Triton says that the SUV yields 1,500 horsepower in its Performance grade and 1,000 horsepower is standard. Power comes from its four wheels and can get from zero to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds.

Triton says that the Performance version fo the SUV will run on a 200-kilowatt-hour battery pack and have 700 miles of range while the Standard model gets a 150-kilowatt-hour battery and 500 miles of range. That’s… a lot considering the size of the vehicle. The revised tiny and aerodynamic Tesla Roadster is said to have a 620-mile range while the forthcoming Volkswagen ID.3 is said to get 340 miles out of a full charge.

The Model H will undoubtedly be far heavier than the Roadster and ID.3. However, to be fair, we still don’t know the exact range of the forthcoming GMC Hummer EV, which could rival the Model H and is likely to beat it to market.

The listed towing capacity is 15.400 pounds or 26,000 pounds, depending on the model. Company resources profess that the Model H has a curb weight of 5.300 pounds, which is less than the 2020 Suburban, which doesn’t have a battery pack. Autoblog reports that the weight of the model is actually 7,700 pounds, which seems more in line with the equipment the company has divulged.

Inside, the cabin of the Model H seems luxurious enough. It’s clear from images presented by the company that the design phase is still ongoing but that technology, though present in the back seats, does not take a back seat.

Triton says that they back every Model H with a 10-year/150,000-mile warranty.

Autoblog reports that the base model starts at $140,000 while the Performance SUV Strats around $180,000. According to the privately held company’s owner, those who order early will get the Performance setup for the price of a Model H Standard.

Triton, a division of Triton Solar, is an electric vehicle company based in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia. The SUV is not currently in production, but the company is taking orders and $5,000 deposits. With their deposit, the first 100 customers get a Founder’s Edition of the Model H that will have “unique additions to the standard specifications which shall never be manufactured again.” The additional $135,000 is expected via a wire transfer within five business days to complete the transaction.
