Its been 20 years since the Toyota Prius became the talking point of eco-conscious celebrities the world over. Since 2000, more than 6 million Prius models have been sold globally, changing the industry forever, showing the there is an appetite for hybrid cars and a willingness for buyers to spend more to drive a car they feel good about.

To celebrate the milestone, Toyota has announced a special edition to commemorate the success of the model. The 2021 Toyota Prius 2020 Edition will be based not he Prius XLE FWD model and be available in the buyer’s choice of Supersonic Red or Wind Chill Pearl paint job.

Each special edition model features black exterior trim accents, similar to the Nightshade outfitting that other Toyota models are getting. There’s a color-keyed rear spoiler as well as black wheel inserts on the 17-inch alloy wheels, blackout headlight components, trim, and B-pillars. Each Prius 2020 Edition gets a “2020” insignia key glove and floor mats, black shift knob, interior A-pillar, and smoked HVAC vents.

It continues to achieve 54 mpg in the city and 52 mpg on the highway. The powertrain setup has no changes in this model.

The Prius XLE grade on which the car is based comes standard with 17inch alloy wheels, Safety Connect, a heated driver’s seat and steering wheel, SofTex-trimmed driver’s seat and steering wheel, eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, keyless entry, push-button start, remote illuminated entry, and wireless charging.

Its features list also includes a 7-inch infotainment touch screen, AM/FM CD player, six-speaker sound system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, AUX, three USB ports, Bluetooth, voice recognition technology, Siri Eyes Free, and a rearview camera.

Just 2,020 of the 2020 Editions will be made. Information about an on-sale date and pricing is forthcoming. The 2020 Toyota Prius XLE starts at $28,250. Buyers of the new model should expect pricing to be slightly higher with the new model year vehicle in addition to the special edition premium.
