The award-winning Hyundai Kona will be refreshed for the 2022 model year.

Hyundai has released three new images of a refreshed version of the Kona and the forthcoming Kona N Line. The models are both 2022 model year vehicles.

The new model is a performance-focused take on the traditional Kona subcompact SUV and continues the company’s recent influx of N Line models throughout their lineup, most recently with the Elantra N Line.

The Kona debuted as a 2018 model and earned the coveted 2019 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year honors. With the refresh, it is expected that Hyundai will give the model a revised front and rear fascia (the front is shown in the teaser photos) and updated infotainment options.

Hyundai has confirmed that the model will have a wider stance and a “shark-inspired nose”. The current Kona’s fascia is modeled after the helmet of an ancient Roman gladiator. There will also be updated daytime running lights, front skid plate, and bumper.

Both the Kona and Kona N Line will embody the company’s new Sensuous Sportiness design theme, which was first seen on the 2020 Sonata and followed with the 2021 Elantra.

The performance-focused Kona N Line will have a more aerodynamic design than its mainstream stablemate. This look includes low-set air intakes and a more aggressive front bumper. There are corner fins and lean crease lines as well.

Hyundai considers N Line models an entry point into the N Brand family of vehicles. Like the Ford ST Line and Audi S, which are a step below the companies’ ST and RS grades, the N Line will likely include sporty design attributes and mild equipment changes.
