Audi debuted the sportier E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT today.

After years of teasing, Audi’s electric-powered grand tourer has finally arrived. The 2022 Audi E-Tron GT is a wide, low, powerful performance sedan that comes in two variants: E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT.

The car’s standout design features include a long wheelbase, wide track, and large wheels. It’s lower and wider than the Audi A7, and equal in length. The car has aesthetic attributes that tie it to the rest of the Audi family including an inverted Singleframe grille, Quattro blisters above the wheels, and flat greenhouse that slopes with the roofline. The car has a five-layer carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof – a first for the company.

U.S.-bound E-Tron GT models will ride on 20-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels with gray accents. Models with the available performance package have 20-inch five-double-spoke alloy wheels with black accents. The RS E-Tron GT comes standard with 20-inch five-spoke AERO wheels and is available with 21-inchers.

The E-Tron GT has two electric motors. The one at the front produces 235 horsepower and the rear motor delivers 429 horsepower. The motors’ net combined output is 469 horsepower, or up to 522 horsepower with overboost for 2.5 seconds with launch control, and 464 pound-feet of torque (472 pound-feet with overboost). This power allows the E-Tron GT to get from zero to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and have a top track speed of 152 mph.

The RS E-Tron GT has the same front motor but a more powerful rear motor. The rear motor produces 450 horsepower making the combined output 590 horsepower and up to 637 horsepower with overboost. Total system torque is 612 pound-feet. As a result, the RS e-tron GT can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph, making it about as quick as a V10-powered Audi A8.

Both cars have a two-speed transmission. They also have a three-chamber air suspension that has 60 percent greater capacity than a similar system in the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback. There are varied body ride nights and changes in each spring can be activated and deactivated individually to personalize driving style.

The cars have a standard fixed locking rear differential. A controlled rear-axle differential lock is available on the E-Tron GT and is standard on RS E-Tron GT.

Each E-Tron GT stores its power in a 93.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery back. The e-tron GT comes standard with the ability to charge at an industry-benchmark 270 kilowatts using DC fast-chargers. This allows it to replenish its battery from five to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes.

Preliminary manufacturer’s estimated ranges based on approximation of EPA test cycles for a full charge are 238 miles for the E-Tron GT and 232 miles for the RS E-Tron GT. That’s more than the Porsche Taycan but far less than the Tesla Model S’s range.

The cabin of the E-Tron GT Is styled in typical Audi fashion. It is a leather-free interior that features recycled materials. Dynamic and Alcantara upholstery are standard. Nappa leather is available. In front of the driver is 12.3-inch version of Audi Virtual Cockpit and 10.1-inch MMI touch screens dimply toward the driver.

A flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in Alcantara is standard. A perforated, leather-wrapped wheel and capacitive hands-on detection are available.

Each E-Tron GT will be produced alongside the Audi R8 at the company’s Böllinger Höfe plant using a highly automated process.

The 2022 Audi e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT will arrive in the U.S. this summer. The E-Tron GT Quattro Premium Plus base model is priced at $99,900. The E-Tron GT Quattro Prestige mid-grade model has a $107,100 price tag. For a top-tier RS E-Tron GT buyers are slated to pay $139,900. Destination and delivery fees are extra.
