Ranked: 10 best-selling new trucks in the U.S. in 2021

Nissan revealed a redesigned Frontier in February. It goes on sale in the summer of 2021.

Dealerships are welcoming 2021 and 2022 models to their lots while some 2020 versions still remain. Before the pandemic, truck sales were rebounding nicely as fleet orders and personal vehicle investments continued.

Below is a list of the best-selling SUVs through May 3, 2021. Many automakers report their sales results quarterly. These rankings have been determined using sales numbers provided by the individual automobile manufacturers.

No. 10 – Nissan Frontier (10,780 sold)

In its last year before a complete model redesign, the 2021 Nissan Frontier carries over everything from the 2020 model. For the 2022 model year, the truck gets a complete redo.

 

No. 9 – Jeep Gladiator (18,882 sold)

Jeep’s truck is sticking with most of its features and options for the 2021 model year. There is a new engine that those who tow might be interested in.

 

No. 8 – Chevrolet Colorado (24,083 sold)

The exterior of the Chevrolet Colorado has been updated for the 2021 model year and it now has a fresh face. Chevy has also discontinued the base model Colorado.

 

No. 7 – Toyota Tundra (26,646 sold)

Toyota has added two new special editions to the Tundra lineup as the model enters its final months on sale before the next-generation truck is introduced. The 2021 Toyota Tundra Nightshade Special Edition and 2021 Toyota Tundra Trail Edition join the lineup and Lunar Rock replaces the Army Green paint color as an option.

 

No. 6 – Ford Ranger (36,967 sold)

Not much has changed on the Ford Ranger for the 2021 model year. It continues to be a competitive midsize truck with high towing and hauling capacities, a strong engine, and connected steering. The truck is available in two- or four-wheel drive. A Tremor off-road package is now available.

 

No. 5 – GMC Sierra (62,917 sold)

Improvements to the GMC Sierra for the 2021 model year were all centered around towing. The truck has more available trailering features for 2021 as well as improved towing capacity with its turbodiesel and turbo-four engines. It continues to have the MultiPro tailgate as an option.

 

No. 4 – Toyota Tacoma (90,897 sold)

Toyota has added two new special editions to the Tacoma lineup for the 2021 model year, making it 33 possible combinations – the 2021 Toyota Tacoma Nightshade Edition and 2021 Toyota Tacoma Trail Edition. Otherwise, the Tacoma has stayed pretty much the same.

 

No. 3 – Chevrolet Silverado (126,591 sold)

The formula for Chevy trucks remains unchanged in 2021. The company is giving buyers more variety to choose from as well as making the multifunction tailgate from the GMC Sierra available on the Silverado. Trucks with the turbodiesel and turbo-four engines are able to tow more than they used to.

 

No. 2 – Ram Pickup (148,836 sold)

The Ram 1500 kept all its good stuff for the new model year, but added a few new models to give buyers more to choose from. This includes the high-powered Ram 1500 TRX, which is designed to take the Ford Raptor on head-to-head. The top-tier Ram models are still among the most luxe in the segment and the available adaptive air suspension delivers a smooth-as-silk ride.

 

No. 1 – Ford F-Series (270,099 sold)

Ford completely redesigned the F-150 for the 2021 model year, giving it a host of new features designed to make the lives of the brand’s target customers better. The F-150 Tremor debuted in late 2020 and the new F-150 Raptor was revealed in February and will go on sale later in 2021. A Raptor R is coming down the line.
