Sedans aren’t as popular as they once were, but that hasn’t stopped automakers from rolling out updates and new features every year. The Honda Accord is all-new for 2023, and it tops the list of midsize cars with the best interiors, but the other models in our ranking offer just as much luxury, tech, safety equipment, and passenger comfort as the Honda.

Honda Accord

The Honda Accord is all-new for 2023, getting a fresh interior with more grown-up styling and better materials. The car offers spacious seating for five people, and the base cloth upholstery feels nicer than expected. Leather upholstery is available, and Honda equips higher trims with heated and ventilated front seats. Front-seat passengers enjoy great head- and legroom, and the front buckets are deep, well-padded, and supportive. The back bench is not as comfortable, but it’s spacious, and the seat has more shape and support than many of the Accord’s rivals. 

Honda improved its tech in recent years and the Accord benefits from an easy-to-use infotainment system that runs smoothly on the standard 7-inch display. A 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB inputs, and more. The Accord Hybrid is available with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen that brings wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Kia K5

The Kia K5’s interior is nicer than it needs to be for the price, but there’s nothing wrong with a little luxury in your everyday driver. The standard cloth upholstery is soft and accommodating, and even tall adults will have no trouble finding a comfortable position. Kia offers synthetic leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and heating/ventilation in higher trims. Back-seat passengers enjoy good legroom, but the car’s dramatic sloping roof cuts into headroom. Though the car earned an “Acceptable” rating for its LATCH system ease of use, installing car seats is easy enough in the real world.

Kia’s infotainment isn’t as colorful or flashy as some, but it’s easy to use and runs well on the standard 8-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with Bluetooth, USB inputs, dual-zone climate controls, six speakers, and more. Higher trims bring a 10.25-inch touchscreen, but they lose wireless smartphone connectivity. The good news is that the larger display also comes with a Bose 12-speaker audio system. 

2023 Toyota Camry

Toyota did a great job with the Camry’s interior, but there are more hard plastics and cheapish materials than we’d like to see. Still, the car offers great space in both rows and top trims add niceties like leather and heating and ventilation for the front seats. The front buckets provide good head- and legroom, and outward visibility from the front row is solid. The back bench is nicely padded and easily accommodates adults on longer trips. The IIHs awarded it a “Good+” score for its LATCH system ease of use, stating that the Camry makes it easy to install car seats. 

The Camry comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, and Amazon Alexa capability. Toyota offers a 9-inch touchscreen with navigation, a JBL sound system, wireless charging, and push-button start.

2023 Hyundai Sonata

The Hyundai Sonata features striking styling outside and an upscale cabin inside. It offers great space across both rows, and the front buckets are deep and well-padded. Adults have no problem riding in either row, and there’s generous head- and legroom for all passengers, though the tallest adults might run low on headroom in the back. Top trims add nice genuine leather, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The car earned a decent score for its car seat anchors, but the IIHS noted they were too deep in the seat. 

Standard tech features include an 8-inch touchscreen running Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD radio, SiriusXM radio, Bluetooth, and USB inputs. Hyundai offers a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, wireless charging, dual-zone automatic climate controls, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Some complain about Hyundai’s infotainment, calling it too simple, but the upside is that it’s easy to use while driving and less distracting to interact with.

2023 Subaru Legacy

The Subaru Legacy offers standard all-wheel drive, excellent safety equipment, and a posh interior that comfortably seats five. Though the design isn’t the most exciting, the Legacy’s cabin is packed with nice materials, and even the base cloth feels premium. Subaru offers leather and heating/ventilation for the front seats, and top trims add heated rear seats. The LATCH anchors are easy to reach, making car seat installation simple, and taller adults can stretch out in the back.

Subaru equips a dual-7-inch touchscreen infotainment system as standard equipment. It brings wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but the larger available 11.6-inch display brings wireless connectivity. USB inputs, four speakers, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, and automatic climate controls are standard. Available features include extra USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and 12 speakers.
