A new lift kit adds inches of ground clearance to the Tacoma.

The Toyota Tacoma isn’t just the best-selling midsize truck sold today, it’s also one of the best-selling trucks on the market today. As competition heats up from the Jeep Gladiator, a supremely capable off-road beast, and the Ford Ranger, which recently debuted its new Tremor package, Toyota is introducing a new Tacoma TRD Lift Kit.

The kit is not available nationwide as a dealer-installed option. It provides up to a 2-inch front and 1-inch rear lift on most V6-powered Tacoma 4x4s. The exceptions are Double Cab Long Bed Tacomas and TRD Pro (two-wheel drive and four-cylinder models are also excluded).

It includes monotube Bilstein shocks that are fitted with new TRD red dust boots and “Tuned by TRD” graphics. The front lift is courtesy of a coil spring adjustment on the shock tube. The front shocks deliver an extended rebound stroke, which improves off-road performance.

At the rear, the Bilstein shocks are larger bodied than those traditionally found on the Tacoma. Its larger size allows it to house additional oil volume, which helps dissipate heat and improve damping response. The bigger shock bodies also accommodate larger pistons. Cast-iron spacers give the rear its lift.

The kit has been designed and tested by TRD engineers and is the only one validated to be compatible with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assist and safety technology.

The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit takes the traditional 9.4 inches of ground clearance the Tacoma offers and boosts that number to 11.1 inches. The kit also improves the approach angle (+3.1 to 32 degrees), breakover angle (+1.6 to 23 degrees), and departure angle (+0.5 to 24 degrees).

Each kit includes a TRD Pro-style front grille, which includes a new Toyota Safety Sense system millimeter-wave sensor (and new camera support bracket) that is designed to precisely fit within the grille to retain the functionality of the TSS system once the kit is installed. Two black bezels are also included. They fill the deleted fog lamps and are designed to complement the grille.

The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit comes with all the necessary hardware for installation and is only offered as a dealer-installed option.

Manufacturer suggested retail pricing for the kit is $1,350 (not including labor, which is estimated at 4-5 hours). The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit is available for all V6-powered 4×4 models,

The Tacoma TRD Lift Kit comes backed by the same warranty as all TRD accessories, which includes a three-year/36,000-mile warranty on parts if it is installed prior to or at the time of the sale, or a one-year/12,000-mile warranty on parts if installed afterward.
