With plans for its debut in May slashed because of COVID-19, GMC has given the 2022 GMC Hummer EV a new debut date.
The exact date has yet to be announced, but General Motors confirmed in a press release today that it will happen this autumn. Our money’s on October.
Unlike its fuel-sipper namesake, the Hummer EV is destined to be an all-electric model. We already know quite a bit about it.

The Hummer EV will come in two flavors – truck and SUV. This is the same formula that Rivian is following with its R1T and R1S models. It is expected that the Hummer will go head-to-head with the Rivian models as well as the all-electric Ford F-150 and Tesla Cybertruck when it goes on sale in 2022.
GM will build the truck in Detroit on its new flexible platform and power the model with the company’s own Ultium battery, which will give it 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. The models are said to get from zero to 60 mph in three seconds.
Earlier this year, GMC showed off the model’s “open air infinity roof”. That design, as shown in the teaser video below, allows for the vehicles’ A-, B-, and C-pillars to stand on their own bracing the model horizontally allowing for plenty of an open-top-ish experience. There are also modular sky panels.

GMC promises that the model will have Adrenaline and Crab drive modes. It is likely that Adrenaline will unleash the model’s horsepower and torque possibilities in a fashion similar to Tesla’s Ludacrous Mode. Crab Mode is probably a version of independent four-wheel drive that allows the model to turn on a dime similar to how the R1T executes a tank turn, and pick its way through precarious driving situations.
GM says that the model will be capable of “super fast charging”, have next-gen Super Cruise technology, and ultra-vision cameras.
From the scenes shown in the video, the models also look to have front tow hooks and the truck has a short bed. The SUV gets a spare tire out back.
GMC will begin taking orders for the Hummer EV this autumn. Production is expected to commence one year later.
