How much is too much? Lucid, the company that brought you the Air sedan, an incredibly quick electric car with luxury and horsepower to spare, already has another variant to consider. The Lucid Air Sapphire Edition sprints from 0-60 mph in less than two seconds and has the killer looks to take on any rivals in the EV business.

Lucid is coy on the output for this car but says that it will exceed 1,200 horsepower. The run to 100 mph will come in fewer than four seconds, and the automaker says that the car will be able to achieve these feats without extensive preconditioning or waiting for batteries to come up to temperature.

In total, three electric motors powerr the Sapphire, all of which come from Lucid’s in-house manufacturing capabilities. Company executives state that a tri-motor variant was always part of the plan, so the upgraded capabilities do not come at the expense of comfort, efficiency, or design.

All-wheel drive comes without question, but the Sapphire’s rear motors help distribute torque between the rear wheels for better handling and cornering speeds. The car can brake the inside wheel to yield an even tighter turning radius.

Of course, 1,200 horsepower without a plan to put the ponies to the ground would be pointless. To that end, Lucid says the Sapphire gets stiffer front and rear springs and exclusive damper tuning to help it go around corners faster than any other variant the company has produced. Carbon brakes come standard, and work with massive Michelin PS4S tires to keep the car planted and stable while turning and braking.

The Sapphire’s cabin features 18-way power seats with black Alcantara (synthetic suede) and sapphire blue stitching. Lucid says the seats bring great support and luxury while providing heating, cooling, and massage.

If you’re interested in owning a Lucid Air Sapphire, the price starts at $249,000. Reservations open on August 23 at 9am Pacific time, so get your alarm clock – and your wallet – ready for the event. Lucid seems to be growing where others failed, so this looks like a decent chance to get a great, burgeoning EV.
